Cutters & Blades FAQ’s
Accent Signage carries cutters for your tactile lettering needs:
- Profile cutters
- Inlay cutters
- Braille cutter bit for hard/rigid acrylic
- Braille cutter bit for soft/pliable acrylic
- Carbide Drill bit for metal substrates
- End carbide end mill for steel
- Shop all cutters here.
Assuming the cutters are being used correctly, they should last a very long time. What can wear down your cutter is overheating due to incorrect RPMs, using the incorrect Z speed or using the incorrect plunge rate.
We do not recommend that you resharpen your cutter due to the very tight size tolerance.
The Colex Sharpcut flatbed cutter streamlines the production of braille signs by employing the patented Auto-Raster® Braille Tool, which automatically dispenses and inserts Raster® spheres—not requiring any special software or manual placement. This automated process installs the braille spheres up to five times faster than traditional manual methods, significantly accelerating production while maintaining precision and consistency. Watch the video below to learn more.
ShopSabre's IS Series CNC routers, when paired with Accent Signage's specialized ADA/braille tooling, dramatically streamlines the production of ADA-compliant signs. The system features the Auto-Raster® Braille Tool that integrates into the CNC spindle, enabling automatic placement of Raster® spheres without resorting to manual insertion. This not only accelerates the braille sign-making process, but also maintains high accuracy and consistency across diverse materials such as wood, plastic, and metal.
Accent carries cutters for drilling on plastics and acrylic as well as aluminum and metal substrates. All metal bits will require a collet drill assembly. The cutters you will need will depend on what size shank your machine takes. Here is a quick reference for the shank size of the most commonly used machines:
- Roland: 11/64"
- Gravograph: 11/64"
- Vision: 1/4"
- CNC (various manufacturers): 1/4" or 1/2"
To set up the Accent Signage Automatic Raster® braille pen and cutters on a Vision Engraving Machine, begin by mounting the spring-loaded Raster® Pen into the spindle adapter designed for your machine. Then select and install the proper cutter (e.g. 0.020" or 0.030" end mill) based on the substrate thickness. Secure everything in place, then carefully lower the Z-axis so the pen tip sits at the correct height just above the surface. Load the pen barrel with Raster® spheres and calibrate the plunge depth to insert each sphere flush to ADA requirements. Once aligned, run a test cycle to ensure reliable dot placement before proceeding with full sign engraving. The video below walks you through each step to ensure proper alignment, secure placement, and smooth operation for precise Braille dot insertion.
To install the Auto Raster® Universal and cutters on a Gravograph machine, begin by inserting the appropriate cutter into the spindle—typically a 0.020" or 0.030" carbide tool depending on your material. Tighten it securely using the collet system. Next, mount the Auto Raster® Universal assembly into the tool holder following the machine's alignment marks. Adjust the Z-axis so the cutter sits slightly above the work surface, ensuring proper clearance. Once installed, calibrate the plunge depth and run a test cycle to verify accurate and ADA-compliant braille bead placement. The video below walks through each step visually to ensure correct installation, tool alignment, and reliable performance.
