Johnson Plastics Plus sublimation paper is engineered to maximize ink transfer efficiency while minimizing common issues in the sublimation process, such as warping and ghosting. This paper ensures that designs transfer crisply and cleanly to both hard and soft substrates, resulting in high-quality finished products with stunning full-color results.
The specially-formulated paper also significantly reduces ink waste. That means more of the sublimation ink makes its way onto the product, rather than remaining soaked in the paper. This translates to cost savings and a financial boost to the bottom line over time.
Johnson Plastics Plus has been a leader in sublimation papers and supplies for more than 30 years. Sublimation products that carry the Johnson Plastics Plus name have been tested to work with a wide range of sublimation printers, including leading brands such as Epson, Sawgrass, and more. What kind of paper is used for sublimation?
Sublimation paper is specifically designed for use in sublimation printing. It's a unique, coated transfer paper that's used to transfer the ink onto the substrate when heated. Please see the Sublimation FAQ Page for questions and answers about sublimation paper selection and use.
Can I use sublimation paper on a regular printer?
Sublimation paper is not compatible with regular printers since it requires sublimation ink and a heat press to transfer the design onto the chosen medium. Regular printers typically use dye or pigment-based inks that do not work with sublimation paper's unique properties.
What is paper sublimation?
Paper sublimation is a printing process where sublimation ink is transferred from special paper to a material or substrate through heat and pressure, resulting in a full-color, durable graphic imprint.
Is sublimation paper the same as heat transfer paper?
Sublimation paper differs from heat transfer paper: it is designed for dye sublimation that chemically bonds ink to the material, while heat transfer paper applies ink on top of the substrate.
What side of the sublimation paper do you print on?
You should print your image/transfer on the bright white side (the other side is dull), and remember to mirror the image as well. If you're unsure which side is the bright white, bend your paper in half to compare one side to the other. Or keep your paper in the packaging, so the print side is always up, with the label indicating the print side.

- Great StuffIncentivized Review1 people found this helpfulI was impressed with the results I was getting with the JPP sublimation paper for my first couple of sublimation experiences. I thought I got deep vibrant reds, crisp tiny word outlines and loved the Chrome Yellow paint on my 55 Chevy. I was happy with the flesh tones too. These are sample tool box magnets I was developing. I was using Epson sublimation ink in an Epson Workforce 1100 converted printer. The transfer temp was 385 for 45 seconds on Dynasub white aluminum using medium pressure. I made 9 different designs and couldn't stop smiling!
- Waste of money 2 people found this helpfulUsed this paper. Were have terrible quality problems. Like not usable end products. Tried numerous things. Then decided to try a different paper….perfection after that. And yes we had it in the printer correctly. Don’t waste your money

To me, and of course I am not expert, the complaints of not knowing what side to use could be easily solved by putting some kind of mark on the back side of the paper. Would this be that difficult? I have mentioned it before. I just put the paper under my Ott light and it is obvious what the bright side is. I certainly understand others frustrations with not knowing which side to print on. I love this paper.

Thank you for your review, Karen! We are happy to hear that this paper works so well for you! We have checked with our supplier, and they are unable to watermark the back of the paper at this time. We are continuing to work on ways to make it clearer which side is the printable side! - Best Paper Hands down!!!!0 people found this helpfulAt first I have to admit I was confused about which side was bright but I folded the paper in half and under good lighting I could clearly see the bright side. The duller side looks a little patchy and I knew that was NOT the bright side. So I printed and sublimated and HOLY COW!!! my substrates are bright, bold and colorful! Best customer service, best price and fast shipping. for the reviewers, if you don't want your paper you can send it to me! lol! Thanks JP Plastics for another amazing product!
- Wasted money1 people found this helpfulThis paper is worse than using regular white printer paper. It is absolutely horrible! Wasted money on the passer and products. Ink release is not there!!!
Response from JPPlus
Thank you for your review, Kim. Ensuring that you print on the brighter, whiter side of the paper may help. You can bend the paper in half to help tell which is the brighter side. Also, tweaking your settings in your printer or press may be helpful. Our customer service department will reach out to you shortly to see what we can do to help you out! - The perfect paper1 people found this helpfulI've tried multiple papers and the JPP paper is hands down the best paper I've used. Added bonus that it's cheaper than other brands too. I hate seeing such low reviews, it's not hard to tell which side is the printable side when you bend one side over itself. When you print on the correct side, the colors come out bright, crisp, and true.
- Hard to tell which side to print2 people found this helpfulIt says to print on the bright side, however, it's difficult to tell which is which. I wish there was a better way to tell. I feel like I wasted my money. The colors came out terrible and I don't have another mug to redo with the other side. A total waste
Response from JPPlus
Thank you for your review, Rachel. We have a couple tips that will hopefully help determine which side to print on: 1. Bend your paper in half to compare one side to the other to tell which is the brighter, whiter side. 2. Or keep your paper in the packaging, so the print side is always up, with the label indicating the print side. Our customer service department will reach out to you shortly as well to see what we can do to help you out! - Love this sublimation paper!0 people found this helpfulWe've tried quite a few sublimation papers, and this one is among the best! We have an Epson EcoTank 2720 with Cosmos Ink, and this printed beautifully and pressed perfectly. Colors are vibrant, lines are crisp, and the paper didn't leave any residue behind on our surfaces like other sub papers do. We love it!
- Best Paper0 people found this helpfulI've used several brands over the years, and this is definitely the best sublimation paper. The images transfer beautifully. I only press on hard sublimation blanks and neoprene items, so I can't say how well it does on apparel. But this is the only paper I will buy.
- Very dull1 people found this helpfulI was so disappointed. I hoped this would be a good paper for sublimation on fabric/T-shirts. The colors are very dull compared to other paper I have used. I will try on hard surface to compare also, but would not use on t-shirts
Response from JPPlus
Thank you for your review, Lynn. We are sorry to hear that this paper is not working very well for you on fabrics! Our Advanced Support Team will reach out to you shortly to see if there is anything we can do to help you out!
